Rich and Wholesome Foods was founded by a concerned family with no previous ties to the food manufacturing industry. Like many Americans, I was raised eating the Standard American Diet, giving little thought to ingredients or what they were doing to my body. That all changed when my son was diagnosed as being on the autistic spectrum at 18 months old. Told by our doctors there was no cure, forced us to look at a future of heartbreak, anxiety, and constant therapy. Our daughter was born two years later and suffered from viruses almost from the start. She had ear infections that wouldn’t clear up long enough for the doctors to surgically insert the drains they were convinced she needed. Both of the children were perpetually on antibiotics.  At the same time, my husband was hospitalized more than once for undiagnosed but severe abdominal pain. I too had health problems and just assumed that was how life was.

After months of searching for answers and seeing as many doctors as we could find, we received a new diagnosis for the cause of our children's health issues from a uniquely informed doctor – Food Allergies and Food Intolerances, an under-diagnosed cause for many of the health issues facing millions of American families. 

To help my family, I spent every waking moment for several years scouring every source imaginable to learn about how foods are causing a myriad of health problems in epidemic proportions today – I was alarmed to routinely find the same conclusions in reputable scientific studies from around the world: common-food-allergen ingredients, preservatives, food colors, yeasts, genetically modified substances and chemicals in almost every packaged food are poisoning our society. These ingredients are linked to inflammation, weakened immunity, digestive-tract cancers, digestive disorders, Celiac Disease, Chrons Disease, Autism, ADHD and a host of other problems on a rapid-rise today.

By eliminating food allergens such as soy, wheat and dairy, as well as avoiding synthetic food additives, genetically modified ingredients, enriched ingredients and synthetic fortifications common to most packaged foods, my family began to heal. When we then increased food based sources of nutrients such as probiotics and DHA, our health rapidly improved. My son transformed into a typical child. Gone were all his autistic symptoms –doctors now deem him a typical healthy well adjusted kid. My daughter's infections disappeared without antibiotics or surgery. My husband no longer has stomach issues, and I no longer have the same health issues I had learned to live with.

The catalyst for starting this company was learning that we were not alone in our journey to better health through improved diet. There are hundreds of thousands of families across the country reversing allegedly incurable health issues through simple dietary changes.

The old adage still holds true – necessity really is the Mother of Invention. Our families are all faced with a complete lack of convenience as few packaged foods met the criteria for better health because the food industry ignored the need to make great tasting foods free from offending ingredients they introduced to our diets over the past generation. The need to provide people with a trustworthy alternative was obvious. That is how Rich and Wholesome Foods came to be.
